Kahala Mall craft event

"The Sea Our Home" 2009 art contest

In the fall of 2009, the Education Department at Sea Life Park Hawai'i organized an art contest for students in grades 1 through 6. The response was overwhelming: we received over 480 submissions and 77 teachers decided to enter. Ms. Tammy Yee, illustrator and writer of children's books, graciously donated her time to be part of the judging process.

To celebrate the success of our art contest, we displayed the winning artwork at Children and Youth Day on October 4th in Downtown Honolulu. The same artwork as well as many other entires were displayed at Kahala mall in the last two weeks of October. The Education Department's staff and volunteers represented the park at the two craft events on October 25th and October 31st (image left).

If you would like to receive a message when we will have events like this again and if you would like to receive updates on what's going on at Sea Life Park's Education Department, please go to our contact page, select "Education" from the "About" field, input your e-mail address and write "Education Newsletter" in the "Comment" box.

We received many beautiful drawings and paintings from children all over the island. It was heartwarming to see how involved our keiki are in taking care of the ocean and sharing that message with others. We selected just a few of these pieces of art to share with you below.
