Get involved: Become a volunteer!

Sea Life Park Hawai'i offers several unique volunteer opportunities for those who want to learn about marine life and contribute to its conservation.

Volunteers play a crucial role within our organization in the areas of hospitality, operations, community outreach, and conservational education. In return, they gain an understanding of the latest scientific information through working with our professional staff, experience a sense of satisfaction that comes with volunteering in such a unique environment, and form long lasting friendships with like–minded individuals.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old unless they are participating in our Career Exploration high school program.

*NEW Hawaiian Coastal Garden

"'Ilima papa" is one of the species we are planting We are building an educational garden primarily consisting of native Hawaiian coastal plants. The garden will be used as a learning tool for people who are interested in learning about Hawaiian coastal plants, special adaptations they have, cultural significance, traditional uses, and how coastal plants are important in our island environment. We rely on volunteers to help build, maintain and interpret the garden.

*NEW Service Learning

Sea Life Park Hawai‘i is a community partner in Kapi‘olani Community College’s Service Learning project in the environmental pathway. We offer positions in the reef department, education, customer service/bilingual, the sea bird rehabilitation department, and in our Hawaiian coastal garden. Please contact the KCC Service Learning office for enrollment.  If you are not a student at KCC and would like to inquire about this opportunity, please contact our volunteer coordinator.

*NEW Career Exploration

This program for High School students is designed to give students an opportunity to explore career possibilities in the field of animal caretaking in our reef department, sea bird rehabilitation, customer service, or education. The program provides a basis for a variety of projects such as: volunteering, community service, service learning, interview skills, senior projects, and more. A good communication between the student, the teacher, and the site coordinator is mandatory to provide a safe and meaningful learning experience. Projects need to be approved beforehand on an individual basis and availability is limited.
