Upgrades Include New Park Entrance, Gift Shop, Reimagined Hawaii Ocean Theatre and All-New Honu Conservation Center
Sea Life Park Hawaii has revealed the first wave of renovation plans for the landmark East Oahu attraction, including an all-new entry and main gift shop building. Furthering the Park’s unique educational and immersive experiences, planned construction also features a dynamic renovation of the Hawaii Ocean Theatre and future plans for a new Honu Conservation Center. An interactive exhibit, the center will provide visitors a journey through the stages of honu life, as well as examine the challenges sea turtles face around the world. Design and architectural drawings for the new entry and retail building are complete and construction will commence following the completion of authorization and permitting processes. Further development projects will occur in stages throughout the park.
“Since 1964, we’ve been honored to welcome visitors and kama’aina to this special place to learn about our wondrous ocean environments and marine animals,” said Valerie King, general manager of Sea Life Park. “We’re pleased to continue that investment in the community, and have been developing a master renovation plan several years in the making. Now working with a terrific team at G70, this vision is coming to fruition in an exciting way—with design concepts that further celebrate our island home and enhanced experiences our guests can enjoy for generations to come.”
While the Hawaii Ocean Theatre is closed in preparation for renovation, audiences won’t miss a moment of all that the Park has to offer. Guests will now be treated to a special encore presentation of the new dolphin lagoon show, Aloha Nai’a, with show times scheduled at both 12:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Guests will be greeted at a temporary ticket office throughout entrance construction, and a comprehensive plan is in place to ensure full service and uninterrupted access. Other souvenir and specialty shops, already in operation at the Park, are in place to accommodate patrons’ retail needs.
Investments will continue to be made throughout the Park grounds, and additional renovation waves and details are to be announced at a future date. To learn more from a feature in the local newspaper the Star Advertiser, CLICK HERE.
