Moʻolelo in the Park: Myths and Legends of Hawaiʻi
A Halloween-themed Keiki Sunday · Sunday, October 11 · 10 AM – 2 PM
Sea Life Park Hawaiʻi celebrates Halloween with a special Keiki Sunday honoring the spirit of the season and the islands’ storytelling traditions through marine-inspired moʻolelo!
The morning begins with a chance to make a hands-on difference for local marine conservation at a community beach cleanup at Kaupo Beach, across from the park, with nonprofit partner 808 Cleanups. Back in the park, explore educational attractions that illuminate the significance of beloved ocean animals such as green sea turtles and seabirds, and learn the Hawaiian myths and legends that connect people through culture and the ocean.
Keiki are treated to free face painting, keepsake photo souvenirs, keiki hula performances and more — and are invited to dress up in costume and trick-or-treat at treat stations throughout the park.
All Keiki Sunday activities are included with park admission.

Moʻolelo of the Sea
Throughout the day, our Habitat Talks share the stories behind some of the ocean’s most storied animals.

Manō (Sharks)
In Hawaiian moʻolelo, sharks were often seen as intelligent guardians of the ocean. Some families even believed certain sharks acted as protectors of their ʻohana, guiding and watching over those at sea.

Honu (Sea Turtles)
Honu are symbols of wisdom, navigation, and protection in Hawaiian culture. Stories often describe turtles helping guide voyagers safely across the ocean or appearing as calm, protective spirits of the sea.

Heʻe (Octopus)
The octopus appears in Hawaiian legends as a clever and mysterious creature connected to the deep ocean. Some stories describe the heʻe as one of the oldest creatures in existence, surviving from ancient worlds long before humans.
