Sea Life Park Hawai‘i has officially become a member of the USA Blue Schools network, joining more than 50 other schools across the nation with a shared commitment to advancing marine education and inspiring the next generation of ocean stewards. A “Blue School” integrates ocean literacy into learning experiences, and engages students in stewardship, conservation or sustainability initiatives. The USA Blue Schools program, an initiative of the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA), promotes authentic, interdisciplinary learning that connects classrooms to local watersheds and ocean environments. Through this national network, schools collaborate to help protect and restore the ocean for future generations.
"Sea Life Park Education is thrilled to be recognized as a USA Blue School and will continue to promote ocean literacy through our diverse educational programs and outreach," said Sea Life Park Hawaiʻi Education Manager Michael Davis. "With support from NOAA and the National Marine Educators Association, we would like to continue to expand the USA Blue Schools network to provide educational opportunities for our Hawaiʻi DOE schools and spread awareness of the importance of marine science education in our K-12 curriculum."
“Sea Life Park’s recognition demonstrates its ongoing commitment to marine education, conservation and community engagement,” said Eric Rose, General Manager, Sea Life Park. The designation also reflects Hawaiʻi’s value of mālama i ke kai (caring for the ocean), uniting cultural stewardship with meaningful action.
